Summer Volunteer Work Days

After the ice storm in January the response from the skiers was phenomenal.. More than 100 volunteered to help with the clean-up effort. Thanks to their help and an unbelievable effort by the mountain staff Mad River re-opened in a matter of days when many thought the season was lost completely. Now that the snow has receded the real clean up begins. Jay Appleton will be leading a volunteer work day each month throughout the off-season. Volunteer work days are as follows

;

Saturday May 30

Saturday June 20

Saturday July 18

Saturday August 29

Volunteers will meet promptly at 9 AM in the base area where they will be briefed and then run up the chairlift. Everyone should be equipped with a hard hat, gloves, sturdy boots, bug repellent, loppers(clippers), a hearty lunch and plenty of water. The lift will run the crew up in the morning so it is vital that you arrive on time. The volunteer crews will work all day to be followed up with a strong dose of Mad River conviviality.

The volunteers will work with the mountain’s Summer crew who will be running chain saws. They will follow gathering and piling up brush as well as helping with light clipping. Volunteers will not be allowed to run power equipment for their own safety and for liability reasons. This policy will protect the volunteers, the mountain staff and the well being of the forest and our legendary ski terrain. It is also possible that the Cricket Club Nursery will be open with the help of parent volunteers, so let us know if you would be interested in that. Please be sure to sign up so that Jay has a basis on which to plan. If you are interested in helping with this effort please call the Co-op office at (802) 496-3551.
