46th Annual Family Tournament Held at MRG Mad River Glen founder, Roland Palmedo, began the Father/Son Race at Stowe with his colleagues in 1947. In 1952 the event moved to Palmedos new ski area, Mad River Glen. Over the next 46 seasons the event has evolved into the Mad River Glen Family Tournament. This event, Mad Rivers most popular, goes far beyond the original Father/Son format. Today it includes, Mother/Daughter, Mother/Father, Mother/Son, Father/Daughter, Grandmother/Grandson, Grandmother/Granddaughter, Grandfather/Grandson, Brother/Sister, Brother/Brother, Sister/Sister and of course the overall Family Winner.. The coveted Overall Family Championship went to long time Mad Riverites, the Roraback family. The Rorabacks amassed 68 points edging out the Clark/Prescott contingent. The Putnams led by Lu, Put and Allison grabbed third place.Mike Huffman and Meg Singer easily won the Mother/Father Title followed by Bob and Abby Vietze and Tom & Leigh Clark. Lu and Allison Putnam clinched the Mother/Daughter category as Lu and Allisons sister, Libby, took second prize. Leigh and Brooks Clark crushed the competition in the Mother/Son division followed by John and Sue Dillon and Gail & Scott Rothman. Michael and Bear Kujala won the Father/Son race beating the defending champions, Lisle and Lisle Gilbert. Greg and Paul Ruetzler finished in third place. Put and Alison Putnam won the Father/Daughter race easily outdistancing Chip and Taryn Roraback and Dave and Leigh Clark. Jamie and Sue Dillon won the Grandmother/Grandson category. They were followed by Brooks Clark and Joann Prescott and Andrew and Joann Prescott. Taryn and Molly Roraback snatched the Grandmother/Grandaughter event while Brooks Clark and Dave Prescott won the Grandfather/Grandson division. Susan and Dave Prescott scorched the competition to win the Grandfather/Grandaughter division. Margie Roraback helped her brothers Chip and Drew go one-two in the Brother/Sister event. Finally, Chip Roraback and Drew Fowler will wear the Brother/brother crown for the next year. All of the winners names are added to the various trophies that have been handed down over the years. |
