I missed the thread re: What is reeb. What is this about?

It all started in list prehistory (that is, before our current archives began) when Wesley Wright, list sponsor and UVM employee, decided that it was not in the best interests of the University of Vermont to promote drug or alcohol consumption. Borrowing upon an idea of UVM art professor Dan Higgins, a special code word was inserted into the SkiVt-L lexicon to represent generalized malt beverages: reeb (spelled backwards, it is B***).

The earliest reference in the current archives appears in October, 1996.  Numerous references to whose appear throughout the SkiVt-L Archives.
